Hebrews 11:2 “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”

Last night my wife and I were discussing various goals and accomplishments that we would like to see come to fruition over the course of the next 5 years.  This is something that I am constantly doing in my life.  Setting goals, evaluating progress, clarifying the process by which I will accomplish these goals, and re-setting goals.  I tend to think about things in a progressive set of steps that will lead me to the prize of completion.  Last night, a revelation from the Lord hit me.  Although we as individuals can set goals and targets to aim for in our lives (which are not inherently bad things), setting our sights on anything other than Christ will ultimately lead to behavior and results that are anything but Christ-centered.  When we set our sights on financial goals, or occupational goals, or even personal goals, when the roots of these things are not found directly in Christ, then they are found in something else.
